An old-fashioned courtship, caught in the middle of an ordinary day. Against a background of blue and grey, a gentleman pays court to a lady as she carries water about her daily duties — a beautifully detailed traditional scene, handpainted in raised relief on this German beer stein. The body keeps the traditional tapered shape, the kind that has graced German tables for generations, and the careful painting rewards a close look: every fold and gesture tells a little more of the story. Modest in size and rich in charm, this beer stein belongs with collectors who love the gentle, everyday scenes of village life — and with anyone who believes romance can bloom beside a well.
