Festive color, old-world craft and a full liter of tradition come together in this Tita Gronemeyer German beer stein. The kannenbäcker-style body is finished in a classic salt glaze and decal decorated with a colorful, festive Oktoberfest München scene, then completed with a flat pewter lid fitted with a hop thumb lift. Salt glaze pottery is stoneware with a glossy, translucent glaze and a slightly orange peel-like texture, formed by throwing common salt into the kiln during firing, where sodium from the salt reacts with silica in the clay to form a glassy coating of sodium silicate. The craft goes back to the 15th century, when artisans of Germany's Westerwald region perfected it. As a beer stein that holds a generous 1.0 liter, it is a celebration of Oktoberfest and of centuries of German stoneware tradition in one piece.
